I highly recommend Dr. Dumanian! I had a fat tumor on my arm that he removed. From the first consultation, to the procedure, Dr. Dumanian explained thoroughly on what it was and how the procedure was going to look like. The staff that helped during the procedure were great as well and made me feel at ease as best one can be. Dr. Dumanian is very skilled and knowledgeable at what he does and it shows with his work. The scar healed very nicely. Thank you Dr. Dumanian and team!
Dr. Dumanion had operated on my husband many times for nerve pain so when I needed plastic surgery to remove excess skin, I knew I wanted Dr. Dumanion. I felt safe knowing I had the best surgeon and staff and that is priceless in the surgery process. Katie his assistant has been fabulous also! When I recently developed an infection in my incision, Dr. Dumanion came into the hospital on a Sunday to meet me and take care of it. This kind of care is unheard of. I was so touched that he cared enough about me to not let it wait until his office opened on Monday. Cannot recommend enough. I still have a few more plastic surgeries to go and will definitely use them again.
I had a left sided open nephrectomy twelve years ago that developed into multiple abdominal incisional hernias that I had repaired. After I developed multiple hernias in the area for a second time, I researched who is the best at complicated abdominal wall reconstruction in the country, not just Chicago. Being a physician, I have access to many opinions from friends and colleagues and Dr. Dumanian’s name came up repeatedly. Dr. Dumanian was very reasonable showing me the MRI images and the plan for the procedure. He gave me a clear understanding of expectations about surgery and recovery. His bedside manner was outstanding in the office, the hospital and during follow-up meetings. The result was better than expected. I can golf, train, and have a very normal looking abdomen that is pain free. When I have referred my own patients to him, he has treated each person with the utmost respect and care. I cannot emphasize enough how outstanding he is as surgeon and human being.
After choosing Dr. Dumanian, I sent him a message through his website on a Sunday afternoon. HE (personally) responded that evening! He said his staff would contact me the next day and they did. The Dr. explained in detail at my first appointment. His surgical skills amaze me. I am 4 months out from the surgery and my chest feels great and looks so much better than it did following a previous surgery in Indiana that resulted in the abdominal hernia Dr. Dumanian repaired. During daily visits while I was in hospital, he explained what he saw and how the recovery was going. His understudy and nurse were also fantastic. You will be happy with the process and results if you choose Dr. Dumanian!!
I had a huge hernia. I was turned down by three surgeons because of the size. Dr. Dumanian did a great job. It has been two months since my surgery and I look and feel great. Thanks, Dr!
Dr. Dumanian used a retrorectus mesh to repair a massive midline incisional hernia I suffered following a surgical procedure performed 10+ years ago by another surgeon. When the hernia presented in ’20, my community hospital surgeon admitted they couldn’t fix it. Seeking care elsewhere, my research brought me to Dr. Dumanian’s website, where I was encouraged to find he specialized in “abdominal reconstruction.” Calling his office for a consultation, “He’s your guy” was all I needed to hear from the staffer to calm my worry. After my first consult, I was confident Dr. Dumanian indeed WAS my guy, as he and his team explained his surgical technique and plan for my case. The prep went smoothly, and the surgery and recovery were flawless – a testament to Dr. Dumanian’s skill. And now, one year out from the procedure, I enjoy a fixed gut and a pain-free life. There is no higher recommendation I can give Dr. Dumanian. And with it, my thanks.
Dr. Dumanian is truly a wonderful surgeon. Not only am I extremely happy with my breast reduction results, but the care I received from start to finish was excellent. He was very kind and friendly. He explained everything to me in my first appointment and made sure all my questions were answered. He ensured I had a smooth prep, surgery, and follow-up. He was attentive in my recovery, and all the staff throughout my process was great. I am so glad I chose Dr. Dumanian and would highly recommend to anyone, you will be in the best of hands!
Very gratifying. I had a very large Abdominal Hernia repaired. The Hernia was protruding in a way that interfered with clothing, breathing, and eating. Dr. Dumanian explained what the process would be and how the recuperation would proceed. I am incredibly appreciative of the end results.
REVIEWS Doctor Dumanian has my complete trust and gratitude. He has improved the quality of my life significantly. He has operated on me twice. He repaired a hernia in my stomach. His work has withstood the test of time. A few years later he fixed my hands and elbow that had become weak and numb from neuropothy. I can now open a twist cap bottle again. And, in addition to his surgical talent, he is a good listener, and a very nice guy. I have a list of heros that have been pivotal in my life. Doctor Dumanian may not reside at the top of the list, but he on it.

Peripheral Nerve Release of the Leg

I am experiencing some recovery in my peroneal nerve and knew that it would delight you to see what I can do. Beginning last July, I noticed the slightest movement in my toes. Progress has been slow and steady in the 8 months since then and now I am walking (mostly indoors, but also light yard work and excursions such as yesterday) without my AFO and without stumbling. I have a lot of movement in my middle three toes–none yet in the big toe or the small toe, the latter still looking “droopy”. However, the PT at the hospital where I work out has measured my foot with a dynamometer and watched me progress from 0-0-0 in January to 4-4-5 currently. I continue to exercise several times a week at our hospital’s Life Fit program. I had been walking 2 miles at 3.2 with my AFO. This week I experimented without the AFO. I am limiting myself to 1 mile at the same rate and it has gone fine. I notice some very slight swelling between my lower calf and ankle, but am not particularly concerned about that.

At any rate, I want you to know how well I am doing and how happy that makes my family and me. I am grateful for your care and for your ongoing concern.

With deep gratitude,
D. M.

Hernia Repair

Dear Dr. Dumanian,

Thank you for improving the quality of my life and giving me my independence. I had two abdominal hernias for 2 years as a result of surgery and treatment for cancer. My oncologist referred me to you for surgery once I was well enough. Other doctors at NU confirmed you were the best in repairing hernias such as mine. I had spent the last two years constantly pushing in my hernia in many disparate and embarassing circumstances, needing someone to be with me in case I was not able to push it in myself. I had to go the E.R. once because it was so extended and I was in so much pain I could not manage it. I read on cancer blogs of other women with hernias like mine. Many of them needed multiple hernia repairs because of repeated tears. You told me that you had an over 95% success rate, two years following surgery. In Dec. 2012 my surgery went perfect, hernias repaired. The pain meds were well planned and I did not experience pain. I had no complications. I was able to go to theater and leave my home within 2 weeks of the surgery, one week after discharge. I was off pain meds and walking in my house for 30 minutes by the third week. By the fourth week I was at the gym doing low impact aerobics.I am independent again and not worried about being in pain from the hernia. I appreciate being independent and free of pain because of you, your team at the Cosmetic Surgery clinic and in the in-patient unit of the hospital. I owe my life and the quality of my living to the professionals at Northwestern Hospital.

Sincerely,
C. B.
