Dr dumanian is the best of the best…..He has excellent bedside manner. He’s very patient and explains everything that u don’t understand. I started having Abdominal pain and abt 6 months in it jus got worse. Finally went to the doc to figure out what was going on and after many months getting xrays and ultrasounds n mri’s found out I had a Abdominal wall seroma. Which was a fluid filled pocket in my abdomen which was causing me pain. Doctor dumanian made sure my insurance took care of everything since this was a medical necessity to get this removed. Dr. Dumanian was great from beginning to end . He’s a very dependable and awesome doctor!!!
I had Hernia surgery from Dr Dumanian in 2020. What an amazing wonderful doctor. Kind, intelligent and a staff that matches!!! The Very Best!
After waiting for a year to ensure the success of the surgery, I feel compelled to provide a reference for Dr. Dumanian, whom I consulted online for a complex hernia repair. Previously, another physician had performed surgery for a small umbilical hernia at my local hospital, which unfortunately resulted in complications necessitating a full open procedure. Despite the installation of mesh, the initial surgery proved unsuccessful, leading to subsequent failures in a subsequent operation with exacerbated circumstances. Upon consulting multiple providers, the prognosis for a permanent solution appeared bleak due to the extensive scar tissue resulting from previous surgeries. Subsequently, I was referred to Dr. Dumanian, recognized for his specialization in surgical repair. The referral proved to be one of the most beneficial recommendations in my life. Dr. Dumanian promptly devised a comprehensive repair approach, assuring me that this would be the final intervention. While his methodology may not be as commonplace as others, it has been unequivocally successful. The management of the entire process, from billing to pain control, by both the staff and the hospital, was exceptionally commendable. In stark contrast to the excruciating postoperative experiences of my prior surgeries, Dr. Dumanian’s team maintained my pain at less than half of what I had previously endured. They were adamant about not releasing me until I felt sufficiently comfortable to travel and sustain myself post-operation. In light of my experience, I wholeheartedly endorse Dr. Dumanian. I find it remarkable that appointments with him are available, as he has consistently proven himself to be a man of his word and an expert in his field. If you are able to secure an appointment with him, you will undoubtedly be pleased with the level of care and expertise provided.
Dr. Dumnian is an amazing surgeon, I’m very happy with the result, he changed my quality of life. His staff is also great in particular Katie, she is so skilled and supportive.
Northwestern Memorial Medical Center has developed an incomparable medical infrastructure of top residents, nurse specialist, and other health care providers that are experienced and trained in reconstructive surgical procedures which in my case was a incisional ventral hernia with significant interior and external scar tissue. Unlike my prior two major abdominal procedures, I never once was concerned that Dr. Dumanian was not providing ‘world class care’ to best insure that I have as complete and restorative recovery as possible. The insistent vital signs and med checks every four hours were performed by the nursing staff or med tech’s with patient comfort and privacy up most in mind. The food needs significant improvement and the 12’th patient rooms are dated and of need a restoration.
He’s so gifted and outstanding as a surgeon. If not for him I may have lost my leg. His staff is the best also, and Katie is my favorite for support and information
I had an emergency Hernia repair in March, 2022 only to be in pretty much the same situation less than a year later. In February, 2023, I was seen by 3 Surgeons and they all turned me down but each of them suggested I consider Dr. Dumanian because of my unusual situation. After a 3 month wait for an appointment, I met Dr. Dumanian and he assured me he could fix my problem. In late May, I had my surgery, boy was I scared going into surgery but Dr. Dumanian’s calming smile and words of encouragement erased my fears. Dr. Dumanian and his staff made me feel comfortable and safe! Everyone on his surgical team were so kind. I was feeling great just days after my surgery! I had my staples removed today and didn’t feel a thing, Dr. Dumanian’s office staff is great. After driving 2 hours for the appointment I was met with smiles and more assurances. I thank everyone that recommended Dr. Dumanian and a special thanks to Dr. Dumanian for making me normal again. You’re The Best Surgeon Ever!!!

I absolutely love the care Dr. Dumanian and staff provided. I was turned around from many plastic surgeons but Dr. Dumanian explained I was finally at the right place and I felt just that when in the office for my consultation. He performed my abdominoplasty with diastasis repair 8/4/21. I could not be more happier. The teaching, education and follow-up was superb. I am a nurse but he still gave me all I needed. I loved this! I would recommend his skills set any day–not just service but a particular set of skills this man possesses. Huge thank you from me to you! Precious
I had an umbilical hernia since birth, and it was a minor problem most of my life. However, by the time I got in my 70’s, I started having issues with blockages, and I looked like I had a basketball tucked under my shirt. I was always a coward when it came to discussing hernia surgery, and several doctors told me that my case was too complicated for them to attempt surgery. Then I found Dr. Dumanian on line. He completely put me at ease, and told me he could “fix this”. I had to lose some weight before my procedure, but I was so anxious to look normal again, this was not an issue. Dr. Dumanian performed a mostly painless major surgery, and the results were incredible. I no longer looked like a candidate for a freak show, and could not be more pleased. I absolutely highly recommend Dr. Dumanian to anyone having similar issues. The only complaint I have is that he is too modest about his incredible skills!
Surgical Technique of TMR – Prosthetic Arms
Greg, Todd, Martin, David, Diego, Kristi and Harold,
I’m honored to write all of you together as a group. You might not all know each other but you’ve all been working together, through ROMP, to do something really incredible for Bryan Torres in Ecuador.
This is Bryan testing his new set of prosthetic arms. He is the FIRST PERSON in Ecuador to ever receive the Targeted Muscle Reinnervation surgery and to use this type of arm technology. Helping him access this type of care would have never been possible if we had not involved some of the most innovative and leading experts in our field.
It takes a team to help a kid like Bryan and you are quite an All-Star team. Just this past Wednesday Bryan’s story made front-page news in (El Comercio) Ecuador’s most important newspaper.

I’d like to recognize each of you for the part you’ve played in making Bryan’s dream a reality.
Dr. Todd Kuiken – For putting ROMP in touch with Dr. Dumanian and for inventing Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR).
Dr. Gregory Dumanian – For inventing the surgical technique of TMR, for donating the procedure to Bryan and for teaching our Ecuadorian surgeon colleagues.
Dr. Diego Palacios – For hosting Dr. Dumanian and performing the surgery in Ecuador’s best private hospital, Hospital Metropolitano.
Governor Martin O’Malley – For climbing for ROMP and raising funds that have been directly applied to the costs associated with Bryan’s care.
Harold Sears – For leading the development of electric arm components in the field of prosthetics and for donating components and your valuable time in the fabrication of Bryan’s prototype prosthesis this July.
David Rotter – For being one of the leading experts in upper extremity prosthetics in our field and for donating your time and genius to fabricate Bryan’s current set of prostheses.
Kristi Turner – For being a leading expert in occupational therapy for individuals with upper limb loss and for developing strategies and tools for Bryan so that he may regain more independence and dignity in his daily life.
There are so many more people who have touched Bryan including the incredible ROMP team, our partners at FHM in Ecuador, and the other volunteers and practitioners who have played a role in providing Bryan the best care possible. I wish you all a beautiful weekend.
Sincerely,
D.K.

Peripheral Nerve Release of the Leg
I am experiencing some recovery in my peroneal nerve and knew that it would delight you to see what I can do. Beginning last July, I noticed the slightest movement in my toes. Progress has been slow and steady in the 8 months since then and now I am walking (mostly indoors, but also light yard work and excursions such as yesterday) without my AFO and without stumbling. I have a lot of movement in my middle three toes–none yet in the big toe or the small toe, the latter still looking “droopy”. However, the PT at the hospital where I work out has measured my foot with a dynamometer and watched me progress from 0-0-0 in January to 4-4-5 currently. I continue to exercise several times a week at our hospital’s Life Fit program. I had been walking 2 miles at 3.2 with my AFO. This week I experimented without the AFO. I am limiting myself to 1 mile at the same rate and it has gone fine. I notice some very slight swelling between my lower calf and ankle, but am not particularly concerned about that.
At any rate, I want you to know how well I am doing and how happy that makes my family and me. I am grateful for your care and for your ongoing concern.
With deep gratitude,
D. M.

Hernia Repair
Dear Dr. Dumanian,
Thank you for improving the quality of my life and giving me my independence. I had two abdominal hernias for 2 years as a result of surgery and treatment for cancer. My oncologist referred me to you for surgery once I was well enough. Other doctors at NU confirmed you were the best in repairing hernias such as mine. I had spent the last two years constantly pushing in my hernia in many disparate and embarassing circumstances, needing someone to be with me in case I was not able to push it in myself. I had to go the E.R. once because it was so extended and I was in so much pain I could not manage it. I read on cancer blogs of other women with hernias like mine. Many of them needed multiple hernia repairs because of repeated tears. You told me that you had an over 95% success rate, two years following surgery. In Dec. 2012 my surgery went perfect, hernias repaired. The pain meds were well planned and I did not experience pain. I had no complications. I was able to go to theater and leave my home within 2 weeks of the surgery, one week after discharge. I was off pain meds and walking in my house for 30 minutes by the third week. By the fourth week I was at the gym doing low impact aerobics.I am independent again and not worried about being in pain from the hernia. I appreciate being independent and free of pain because of you, your team at the Cosmetic Surgery clinic and in the in-patient unit of the hospital. I owe my life and the quality of my living to the professionals at Northwestern Hospital.
Sincerely,
C. B.
